Our schools' focus must be on learning and the child. Without question the greatest goal, and challenge, is to promote student achievement and development. In our communities, you will find wonderful students and parents. In our school system, you will find teachers, staff, administrators, and school board members who are highly skilled, enthusiastic, and dedicated to student learning and success.

The Humphreys County School System continues to provide excellent learning opportunities for our students as we prepare them for the challenges of the 21st century. Our educational programs are always growing and constantly improving. Our instructional methods must be subject to ongoing self-scrutiny. The words pride, safety, respect, responsibility, fairness, trustworthiness, caring and citizenship should be what Humphreys County Schools stand for as a district. The words must be a message to our community and all who pass by that something great and important is happening in our schools.

Humphreys County Center for Higher Education

695 Holly Lane, Waverly, TN
(931) 296-1739

Humphreys County is fortunate to offer higher education through its Humphreys County Higher Education facility located off Hwy. 70 West on Holly Lane. The Center offers college courses leading to associate degrees from its lead institution, Nashville State Community College, as well as diploma programs from the Tennessee Technology Center of Dickson. The Center also offers Adult Education and GED courses through the Humphreys County Public School District. The Humphreys County Center for Higher Education serves the needs for higher education to not only Humphreys County but to the surrounding counties.
The Center opened in 1999 and has already experienced expansion. The expansion was a result of a partnership between Nashville State Community College, Humphreys County and industry officials to develop a program to meet the workforce needs of chemical processing plants in the Waverly/New Johnsonville area that are facing large numbers of retirements and also to attract new industry to the area. The result was the development of a new Industrial Process Control Technology program which allows students to earn an associate’s degree which increases their eligibility for highly sought after technical positions in the chemical processing industry. The courses are offered in a highly technical 10,000 square foot facility that adjoins the already existing 22,000 square foot classroom and administrative facility.

The Humphreys County Center for Higher Education is a great way to further your education close to home and a great experience for new and older students to be able to achieve their educational dreams. High School students are realizing the advantage of a college campus in Humphreys County by taking advantage of the college courses as a way to get a head start on completing their college degrees through Dual/Joint Enrollment.
