Pick up your list and check it twice as you search the Welcome Center to see just what you can find. Work together as a family and turn in your scavenger hunt for fabulous prizes!

Join us at Johnsonville State Historic Park on our Spring Hike as we traverse the extensive back-side of the Johnsonville Historic Trail. The hike will take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours and will conclude back at the new Upper Trail head. Wear comfortable clothing and hiking boots or shoes, bring a water bottle, hat, and don’t forget your favorite hiking stick! To get to the trailhead, after entering through the park gate, follow the road to the left up the hill and all the way to the rear of the park where you will see the new Trail Head parking area.

Join us at Johnsonville State Historic Park on March 28th for Park Day sponsored by the Civil War Trust. The event is part of an annual national program where the public is encouraged to visit their favorite Civil War Park and participate with park staff in conducting a project that will help enhance the public’s appreciation of the Civil War and the park’s main features. At Johnsonville Historic Park meet the park staff at 10am at the Upper Redoubt parking lot (After entering the park, go left up the big hill). The project for this year’ Park Day will be to remove limbs and brush from rifle pits near the historic Upper Redoubt constructed in 1864 by Union troops who were garrisoned at Johnsonville during the Civil War. Reservations are not required, just show up and lend a hand.

From the collapse of the Confederate defense at Petersburg and the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia; to the assassination of a president and the worst maritime disaster in American History, these films will bring to light the events of April –1865.

Johnsonville Union Artillery Garrison Spring Living History Event

The roar of Civil War cannons will again echo through the hollows of Johnsonville State Historic Park as the park hosts its annual spring artillery garrison. Join us as Union troops demonstrate camp life, military drill, civil war cooking and the role of the artillery and its destructive power as it was used during the Civil War and at the Battle of Johnsonville on November 4, 1864.

Loretta Lynn’s Independence Celebration Weekend Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 4th and 5th
Spend you weekend at Loretta’s Ranch.  There are camping and cabin rentals on site.  You can kayak, canoe or tube down Hurricane Creek, take a dip in the pool, visit Western Town and enjoy the live music all afternoon.  Tours and shopping are available as well.  Thursday night at 7 is a campfire show.  Saturday night is Loretta performing her Conway Twitty Tribute. Fireworks and Music on the Square – Saturday, July 5th

This event features a huge fireworks display set to music and the usual Music on the Square band entertains beginning at 7 pm.  Concessions are available.  This show is not only popularly attended at the Waverly Central high School Football Stadium but is watched by many while boating on the Tennessee River.  For more information call city of Waverly at 931-296-2101.    No admission charge

160th Annual Irish Picnic   Friday and Saturday, July 26th - 27th McEwen TN

One fundraiser which we take great pride in is our Irish Picnic and Homecoming. Hosted by members of St. Patrick Church and the friends of the Parish, the Irish Picnic is always held the last Friday and Saturday in July. Some 21,000 pounds of barbecue pork will be slow cooked over hickory bark coals during a 24-hour laborious process, ready for hungry lunch crowds Saturday morning. Early visitors may want to feast on the 4,200 chicken halves that will be prepared by lunch time Friday. Plan to stay for the free live music and dancing that begins at 6:00 P.M. in the outdoor bandstand. If you're feeling a bit of the Irish luck, try your hand at the numerous games, including basketball, dart throw, and a duck pond, that will be open from 5:00 P.M. until 11:00 P.M. Friday and again on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 P.M. Music and dancing will begin Saturday morning and last throughout the day. This is a wonderful time of good food, good fun and great fellowship, as well as a major supporter of our rich Catholic Heritage here at St. Patrick’s School. AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship

MX Sports pioneered and developed the business model for the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, the world's largest amateur motocross race. Hosted annually since 1982 at the ranch of country music legend Loretta Lynn in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, the National Championship has served as the launch pad of virtually every top American Motocross and Supercross rider.
In 2012, there were more than 29,000 attempts to qualify in the select 36 classes for the 1,410 available start positions at the national final. Battle of Johnsonville 151st Anniversary Walking Tour, November 4th and Anniversary Commerative Living History Event November 6th

Experience the many events taking place over this 3-day commemoration of the November 4, 1864 battle including musket and cannon firing, reenactments of the battle and Civil War historians sharing how General Nathan Bedford Forrest overtook the Union Navy.  The battle took place on both sides of the Tennessee River as will this tribute.  For more information call 931-535-2789.  No admission charge.

 

Quilt Show, Quilt Trail and Christmas Open House

This 4th annual Quilt Show is being held at the First United Methodist Church in Waverly right on Main St.  Read all about the handmade quilts and shop the boutique for some unique handmade items. Then don’t forget to vote on your favorite for the Viewer’s Choice Award.  You can pick up a map for the Quilt Trail and travel the route later in the day.  While you’re downtown visit the distinctive shops during their Christmas Open House.
